Foldnex Privacy Policy
Foldnex works entirely inside your browser. It has no tracking, no analytics, and no Magrathean-operated server: your tab titles and URLs never pass through our systems. If you choose an optional cloud AI provider, your browser talks to that provider directly, using your own API key.
About this notice
Foldnex is published by MAGRATHEAN UK LTD ("Magrathean"). This notice explains what the extension does with your data. The Magrathean privacy policy at magrathean.uk/privacy/ covers everything else, including your rights and how to contact us.
On your device
Foldnex reads the titles, URLs, pin state and position of the tabs in your current Chrome window to find exact duplicates and assign the rest to tab groups. It does not use content scripts and does not read page content, cookies, keystrokes or form data. Settings, any provider API key you enter, your own grouping rules, a short-lived grouping cache (entries older than six hours are not reused, and at most twelve are kept), and up to twenty recent diagnostic records (engine, counts, timing — never titles, URLs or provider responses) are stored in Chrome's local extension storage. An Incognito-window run does not save any rule, cache or diagnostic entry. Uninstalling Foldnex deletes all of this.
What leaves your device
Foldnex sends data outside your device only when you choose to use one of these: tab titles (up to 1,000 characters each) and sanitised URL host/path hints, together with your API key or bearer token, go to the cloud AI provider you choose and configure (OpenAI, Google Gemini, Groq, Cerebras, OpenRouter, DeepSeek or xAI), to group that window's tabs by task; this happens only when you select that provider and run "By task" grouping, or test the connection. A request with no tab data goes to your own local Ollama server at localhost:11434, if you configure it, to group tabs using a model you run yourself, only when you select Ollama.
Grouping by site category, Offline smart mode, and Chrome's on-device Gemini Nano never send tab data anywhere. URL credentials, query parameters and fragments are removed before any cloud request. Titles and the retained path can still contain sensitive information, so review your window before using a cloud provider.
Permissions
Foldnex asks for the tabs and tabGroups permissions to read and group tabs in your current window, and storage to keep the settings above. It does not request the browsing history, camera, microphone or location permissions.
Keeping and deleting data
Clear rules, the grouping cache, or diagnostics at any time from Foldnex's settings. Clear and re-save a provider field to remove a stored API key. Uninstalling the extension removes everything Chrome stored for it.
