Codexex
Privacy Policy
Codexex is published by MAGRATHEAN UK LTD (“Magrathean”). This notice explains what the app does with your data. The Magrathean privacy policy covers everything else, including your rights and how to contact us.
Codexex is local-first: it does not run a Magrathean cloud service for your OpenAI account or quota data. Sign-in, tokens, quota history and local usage analysis stay on your device. The only thing that leaves your device for Magrathean is an encrypted, content-free registration for the optional iOS Live Activity wake service. Codexex has no analytics or advertising SDK and does not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission.
The Codexex website, magrathean.uk/solutions/codexex/, separately uses Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure page visits and link clicks, active by default. That is website measurement, not app data collection; it does not receive data from Codexex.
On your device
Codexex stores your ChatGPT/OpenAI sign-in state, OAuth tokens, quota snapshots and history, local Codex session usage data, preview-mode settings and app preferences. OAuth tokens use Apple Keychain or platform-protected storage; history and preferences use the app sandbox. Sign out, delete local history in Settings, or delete the app to remove this data.
What leaves your device
- Device/user code, then your approved sign-in — to OpenAI/ChatGPT, for sign-in, token refresh, quota and usage lookup, at sign-in and every quota refresh.
- An encrypted APNs device token, a one-way token fingerprint and a random installation credential — to
push.magrathean.uk, hosted on Cloudflare, to register or remove the optional iOS Live Activity wake, only when you turn on a Live Activity. - Standard App Store operation data — to Apple, for distribution, updates and platform services, during ordinary App Store use.
The push registration never includes your OpenAI credentials, account identifier, email, plan or quota values. It only triggers a content-free wake; your device then fetches your quota directly from OpenAI.
Purchases
Codexex is free. It has no in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Permissions
Codexex requests iOS notification permission only to show the optional Live Activity and local reminders. It does not request camera, microphone or location access.
Keeping and deleting data
Local history and preferences remain until you clear them, sign out or remove the app. A Live Activity wake registration is removed when you stop the Live Activity; if removal does not complete immediately, it expires automatically after 30 days unless renewed.
Changes
We update this notice when the app changes and show the date at the top.
