Tool focusClaude, Anthropic
Anthropic describes Claude for Excel as a way to ask questions about workbooks, debug errors and work with cell citations. That is useful for finance and operations teams, but it still needs a named reviewer before anything changes a customer, supplier or board outcome.
Practical SME workflow
Use Claude for a vendor risk review workflow. The workbook includes supplier spend, renewals, owners and evidence fields. Claude can identify missing fields, unusual dependencies and questions for the supplier owner. The owner decides what is true.
Risk and control
Keep workbook overwrite protection enabled where available, review citations, and do not accept a change only because it looks plausible. For client-facing, audit-critical, sensitive or judgement-heavy output, require a human sign-off line in the handover note.
