ChatGPT for Excel in SME finance
Spreadsheet AI is useful when it explains, updates and checks models. It becomes risky when teams treat the draft as approved finance work.

Tool focusChatGPT, OpenAI
OpenAI's spreadsheet tool can help build, update and explain Excel or Google Sheets files. For an SME finance team, the value is not magic forecasting. It is faster model review, clearer assumptions and fewer undocumented edits.
Practical SME workflow
Use it inside a month-end close AI workflow. Upload or connect the workbook only after sensitive data is removed or approved. Ask for a list of tabs, formulas, assumptions, missing references and close questions. Finance reviews the answer before any journal, report or board note changes.
Risk and control
Spreadsheet AI can be wrong, and formulas can be misunderstood. Keep a clean original, require reviewer notes, and separate "AI suggested" from "finance approved". Do not treat generated formulas, scenario tables or commentary as financial, tax or legal advice.
